Virtues of Surah Ikhlaas

 

As mentioned in ahadith, there are numerous virtues of reciting Surah Ikhlaas. Some virtues are presented below:

 

Reward of one third of Quran:

In a few ahadith the virtue of Surah Ikhlaas is mentioned to be equal to a third of Quran. Whereas in other ahadith reciting Surah Ikhlaas 3 times is equivalent to 1 Quran. (Bukhari, volume 2, pg 750 & Kanzul Umaal, volume 1, pg 585)

 

Example, you’ll receive the reward of 2 Qurans by reciting Surah Ikhlaas 6 times.

 

Hazrat Abu Hurrairah (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) once said “People! Come together, I am going to recite a third of the Quran to you.” When people got together, he (salallahu alaihi wasalam) recited Surah Ikhlaas and said “This is one third of the Quran.” (Sahih Muslim, volume 1, pg 271)

 

Hazrat Abu Darda (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Do any of you have the ability to recite a third of the Quran in one night?” The Sahaba (radiallahu anhum) said “How can we recite a third of the Quran in one night?” Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Qulhu-wallahu ahad is equal to a third of the Quran.” (Sahih Muslim, volume 1, pg 271)

 

Hazrat Abu Ayub (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Qulhu-wallahu ahad has recited a third of the Quran.” (Hisnul Haseen, pg 444)

 

Allah’s love:

Hazrat Ayesha (radiallahu anha) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) appointed a man as a leader of a small group and sent them. This Sahabi used to lead everybody in Namaz, and at the end of every rakaat he used to recite Qulhu-wallahu ahad. When this Sahabi returned, the group mentioned him infront of Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam). Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Ask that Sahabi why he used to do that”. The group then asked him, and the Sahabi replied “I recited Qulhu-wallahu ahad because they are the qualities of the Rahman (Allah) and I love to recite it.” Then Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Tell him that Allah also loves him (for this reason).” (Hisnul Haseen, pg 444)

 

Reciting after Fajr Salah:

Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Qulhu-wallahu ahad 12 times after Fajr Salah it is as if (in reward) they have recited the Quran 4 times. Provided one stays away from sin that day, he/she will be the best person on the face of the Earth.” (Kanzul Umaal, volume 1, pg 559)

 

Reciting morning and evening:

By reciting Surah Ikhlaas in the morning and evening one will be protected from suspicion, delusion and deterioration of belief. (Wazaif Ashrafiya)

 

Reward of reciting on Friday night:

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas 100 times on Friday night then he has paid the right of Friday in the same way angels holding the throne of Allah have paid their right.” (Abu Naeem feeh Fazail-e-ha)

 

50 years of sins forgiven:

Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Qulhu-wallahu ahad 50 times, Allah will forgive their 50 years of minor sins.” (Kanzul Umaal, volume 1, pg 585)

Hazrat Anas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas 50 times, Allah will forgive his sins.” (Sunan Darmi, volume 2, pg 461)

 

Hazrat Anas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Qulhu-wallahu ahad 100 times daily, 50 years of sins will be forgiven. But if he is in debt, that debt will not be forgiven until the person whom he is indebted to forgives him.” (Tirmidhi, volume 2, pg 117)

In another narration it’s stated that provided he stays away from four sins: (1) murder, (2) stealing, (3) zina (fornication/adultery), (4) consuming alcohol.

 

200 years of sins forgiven:

Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Qulhu-wallahu ahad 200 times, Allah will forgive their 200 years of minor sins.” (Kanzul Umaal, volume 1, pg 586)

 

Freedom from Hell:

Hazrat Feroz (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Qulhu-wallahu ahad 100 times in or outside Namaz, Allah will free him from hell fire.” (Kanzul Umaal, volume 1, pg 585)

 

Rows of thousands of Angels:

In one narration it is written that once Hazrat Jibrael (alaihi salam) came in the presence of Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) and said “Huzoor (salallahu alaihi wasalam), Muawiya ibn Muawiya Al-Muzain has passed away, would you (salallahu alaihi wasalam) like to pray his Janazah Namaz? (Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) agreed) Therefore, Jibrael (alaihi salam) struck his wing from which no tree and no veil remained. Everything in between finished and the Sahabi’s Janazah was infront of Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam). He (salallahu alaihi wasalam) saw this and prayed his Janazah Namaz. Two rows of angels also prayed his Janazah Namaz, with each row containing 70,000 angels.

Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) asked “Oh Jibrael! Which action caused him to get this status from Allah?” Jibrael (alaihi salam) replied “From the love of Qulhu-wallahu ahad and recitation of this Surah whilst sitting, standing and in every state. Due to this he has got this status.” (Kanzul Umaal, volume 1, pg 601)

 

When entering your house:

Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas upon entering his house, he will be free from tightness and there will be barakah (blessings) in his wealth Insha-Allah. (Wazaif Ashrafiya)

Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas at the time of death, he will be free from questioning in his grave. The angels will lift him on their wings and take him over the pull sirat to Jannah. (Noor us-sudoor feeh Sharhil Quboor)

 

When visiting graveyard:

Hazrat Ali (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “While visiting the graveyard, whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas 11 times and sends the reward to all those who have died then he will receive the reward equivilant to the people who’ve died.” (Sunan Daar Qutni)

 

Meeting of Angels on Day of Judgement:

Hazrat Anas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever prays 12 rakaats after Magrib Salah in such a way that he recites Surah Ikhlaas 40 times in every rakaat, then the angels will shake his hand on the day of judgement.” (Jamul Javameh, volume 1, pg 796)

 

Enterance into Jannah:

Hazrat Jabir (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas 50 times daily then he will be called on the day of judgement “Oh the one who praises Allah! Stand up from your grave and enter into Jannah”.” (Tabarani, volume 2, pg 130)

 

Hazrat Ayesha (radiallahu anha) narrates that one Sahabi used to always recite Surah Ikhlaas with other Surahs in Namaz. When he was asked about the reason behind it, the Sahabi said he loves this Surah a lot. Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Due to the love of this Surah, Allah will enter you into Jannah.” (Tirmidhi, volume 2, pg 118)

 

Granted Jannah:

Hazrat Anas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever intends in going to sleep, then whilst lying on the right side he recites Surah Ikhlaas 100 times then on the day of judgement Allah will say to him “Oh my servant, enter into Jannah from your right side”.” (Tirmidhi, volume 2, pg 117)

 

Hazrat Abu Hurrairah (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) heard one person reciting Qulhu-wallahu ahad. He (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “It has become Wajib (compulsory) upon him.” I asked “Oh Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam), what has become Wajib on him?” He (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Jannah.” (Tirmidhi, volume 2, pg 117)

 

Palaces in Jannah:

Hazrat Khalid ibn Zaid Ansari (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever prays 20 rakaats between Magrib and Isha in such a way that he recites Surah Fatiha and Surah Ikhlaas in every rakaat, then Allah will make for him two palaces in Jannah which will be without a joint or fault.” (Jamul Javameh, volume 1, pg 796)

 

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever prays two rakaats after Isha Salah and in every rakaat he recites Surah Ikhlaas 15 times, then Allah will make for him two palaces in Jannah.” (Tafseer Dur e Mansoor, volume 6, pg 415)

 

Hazrat Ma’aaz ibn Anas Al-Juhani (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Qulhu-wallahu ahad and completes it twice, Allah will make for him a palace in Jannah.” Hazrat Umar (radiallahu anhu) said “Oh Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam), we will then be able to make lots of palaces”. Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Allah’s Mercy is a lot more and purer than this.” (Imam Ahmad with his chain of narration)

 

Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Qulhu-wallahu ahad 10 times, Allah makes for them a palace in Jannah. (Kanzul Umaal, volume 1, pg 585)

 

Construction of 100 palaces:

Hazrat Anas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas 100 times in wudhu in such a way that he recites Surah Fatiha at the start then Allah will grant him 10 rewards for every letter he recites, he will be raised by 10 ranks and 100 palaces will be constructed for him in Jannah.” (Baihaqi “Shaubul Iman”, Hadith no. 2318)

 

Granted Jannah:

Hazrat Anas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever intends in going to sleep, then whilst lying on the right side he recites Surah Ikhlaas 100 times then on the day of judgement Allah will say to him “Oh my servant, enter into Jannah from your right side”.” (Tirmidhi, volume 2, pg 117)

 

Reward of reciting on day of Arafah:

Hazrat Jabir ibn Abdullah (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whichever Muslim stays on the plane of Arafah in the evening and recites the following with Surah Ikhlaas 100 times, whilst facing qiblah:

 

لَآ اِلهَ اِلاَّ اِللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ

 

And then recites the following Durood 100 times:

 

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى اِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَى اَلِ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ اِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ وَعَلَيْنَا

 

Allah says “Oh my angels! What is the reward for this servant? He has expressed my worship, my purity, my highness, my glory, my recognition, my praise and has sent Durood on Nabi (salallahu alaihi wasalam). Oh my angels! Bare witness that I have forgiven him and have accepted his intercession for himself, and if this servant of mine asked me for the intercession of all the people on Hajj then I would have accepted it.” (Baihaqi, “Shaubul Iman”, Hadith no. 3780)

 

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas 1000 times on the day of Arafah in the evening, Allah will accept every single one of his Duas.” (Sayuti, Jamul Javameh, volume 1, pg 822)

 

Reciting on day of Jummah:

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (radiallahu anhu) directly narrates from Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) that he (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever goes to the Masjid on the day of Jummah and prays four rakaats in such a way that he recites Surah Ikhlaas 50 times (after Surah Fatiha) in every rakaat, completing 200 recitations of Surah Ikhlaas. Death will not come upon him until he sees his abode in Jannah or he sees his place in the hereafter.” (Tafseer Qurtubi, volume 8, pg 8339)

 

Reward of 50 Siddiqeen:

Hazrat Anas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas 50 times after Fajr Salah before talking to anyone then for that day he will receive the reward equivalent to the actions of 50 siddiqeen.” (Firdous Deelami & Dur e Mansoor, volume 6, pg 44)

 

Reciting Surah Ikhlaas 1000 times:

Hazrat Huzaifa ibn Yamaan (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas 1000 times, it is as if he’s bought his nafs (ego/soul) from Allah.” (Sayuti, Jamul Javameh)

 

Various virtues of Surah Ikhlaas:

Hazrat Anas (radiallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said “Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas once, blessings will decend upon him. Whoever recites it twice, blessings will decend on him and his family. Whoever recites it three times, blessings will decend on him, his family and his neighbours. Whoever recites it twelve times, Allah will make for him a palace in Jannah and the angels say to each other “Let’s go and see our brother’s palace”. Whoever recites it 100 times, besides stealing and murder, his 25 years of sins will be forgiven. Whoever recites it 300 times, Allah will write for him 400 martyrs reward. Such martyrs whose horses’ feet were cut and the martyrs were killed. Whoever recites it 1000 times, death will not come upon him until he sees his abode in Jannah.” (Jamul Javameh, volume 1, pg 182 & Qurtubi, volume 8, pg 8340)
